The Morini Kanguro
A kanguro being ridden in an enduro around 1994The Kanguro was possibly the best selling of Morini's V-twin bikes but is often overlooked in favour of the highly-collectable Sport and the original Strada models.
So-called trail or dual-sport bikes inhabit a strange world between highly specialised competitive trial or enduro machines and ordinary roadsters. They became popular in the 1980's as riders liked the idea of their versatility and possibly because of the rugged image they portray. For the last 15 years the market has been dominated by Japanese single cylinder bikes and the mega-trailies, such as the R1100GS from BMW.
However for a short time Morini made two series of bikes, the Camel (called the Sahara in England) and the Kanguro, that had real off-road ability combined with the speed and fuel economy needed for a road bike.
The larger-engined Camel is possibly the better bike and some would argue that early model Camels are the best. Here I'm going to support the underdog and present information to enhance the profile of the Kanguro and help other owners keep their bikes on the road.
